Welcome to the LOC-SACSCOC Website Fifth-Year Interim Report  (September 14, 2018)

Who is SACSCOC?

While the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) conducts an intensive review of its member institutions every 10 years, the U.S. Department of Education requires accrediting agencies to monitor institutions more often to ensure that those eligible for federal funds continue to meet accreditation standards. To that end, the commission has developed a Fifth-Year Interim Report.

The Fifth-Year Interim Report is an abbreviated compliance report that addresses select standards, issues from the last visiting committee review, and the QEP impact (The Fifth-Year Interim Report Process: an Overview). Completion of the report includes five components:

The fifth-year report is an important milestone. It allows LOC to reflect and respond at the midpoint of the 10-year reaffirmation cycle. Required by the U.S. Department of Education, the report ensures we meet accreditation standards and provide a high-quality learning environment for our students.

The preparation for the fifth-year report represents a collective effort including multiple College stakeholders. It provides a detailed look at selected aspects of the College. Ultimately, the Fifth-Year Report is about more than just compliance: it’s about the students.

The Fifth-Year Report allows LOC to take stock of and evaluate the programs and services it offers, and ensures the College's emphasis on continuous improvement. At the center of the benefits a positive evaluation provides are LOC's students, who are assured their degree carries value.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. To maintain accreditation with the Commission on Colleges, an institution must comply with the standards and requirements in The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement and with the policies and procedures of the Commission on Colleges.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges conducts a comprehensive review of its institutions every ten years. The U.S. Department of Education requires accrediting agencies that it recognizes to monitor its institutions more often to ensure that institutions having access to federal funds continue to meet accreditation standards.

The Commission reaffirms the accreditation of an institution as a totality. This accreditation extends beyond the parent campus to include all centers, branches, campuses, or other sites at which postsecondary degree or non-degree work is offered as well as all work offered through distance learning and correspondence education. The institution must include the review of all its operations in its Compliance Certification and the Commission will review them during the institution’s reaffirmation.  LeMoyne-Owen College will be reviewed by SACSCOC for reaffirmation of accreditation in 2032.
